- : What if you were to hardcode your bitplanes based on a 2Mb chip memory
- : configuration and do a MOVE A0,$110000. It's not a bug; it functions as
- : specified. But it perhaps crashes the next Amiga (same model, just 1Mb chip
- : less). So it's not a bug, but just CRAPPY CODE. That's what Michael is
- : talking about. Don't degrade yourself by this silly mistake. You're too easy.
-
- We agree that that is crappy code. But that's not what Michael is talking
- about - his argument is that ANY hardware-hitting is crappy code. There's
- a big difference between a piece of code that fails on a 2Mb chipram machine
- due to obviously foolish absolute addressing, and a piece of code which
- fails on a machine which has no connection between the Amiga custom chipset
- and the monitor (like my 3000+Retina) because it was written to run on the
- Amiga custom chipset.

-
- Good.

- : >it's not an Amiga.
-
- : If you want to ignore that an Amiga with a Retina is still an Amiga, then you
- : probably want to see the Amiga die. A Retina is as much an expansion as a
- : different processor. Why did you buy the 1200 anyway, it is NOT an Amiga,
- : only the Amiga 1000 really is, using your ruling.
-
- Idiot. An A1200 is an Amiga 1200 designed and built by C= Amiga or Amiga
- Technologies. Of course it is an Amiga. My Retina - I can't even remember
- the name of the company that built it. It's a standard SVGA chipset. It's
- no more Amiga hardware than the PC I'm typing on right now is.
-
- : Stating the Amiga is not an
- : Amiga just points out your inability to program it. Oh my gosh, another
- : hardware change! Now I'll have to reprogram all my demos!
-
- Actually, I am able to program for a Retina, and have done so. I don't
- bother much because there's not much audience (mainly due to the Retina
- Z2 not being supported by any of the popular RTG systems).
-
- Hardware change = reprogramming all my demos? Again I say, idiot! A
- hardware change means that the NEXT demo can be made better by using
- the new hardware, not that the old ones must be redone.
-

- : >get the same reaction from me.
-
- : Hit the hardware, but don't expect your software to be taken seriously, or
- : make the Amiga any more to be taken seriously, for that matter.
-
- I expect my software to be taken seriously by people who share common
- interests with me, ie, the Amiga demo scene. I don't expect it to be
- taken seriously by you and Michael. This is always the case - code a
- game 100% OS friendly, supporting all past present and future Amigas,
- and I'll find you an army of people who don't take it seriously because
- it's a game.
-
- Is the Amiga to be taken more seriously because it's user base contains
- people who think everyone should be using their Amigas not to do what they
- want, but rather to do what YOU want? Whatever happened to the computer
- for the creative mind!?
-
- : Sorry to have wasted bandwidth on yet another flame-mail. Just couldn't
- : resist!)
-
- It wasn't a flame, it was an argument. ;-)
